Mental health professionals and attorneys are invited: Forensic group meeting announcement ~ Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 7 pm (Submitted by NTSPP member in good standing Mitchell Dunn MD)

January 11, 2012
7:00 pmto9:00 pm
Mental health professionals and attorneys are invited!
Please know that the continuing education credit that is mentioned is not CME, but rather credits for psychologists and LPCs.
The next meeting of the Forensic Group will be held on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

We hope you enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to a productive new year. We’re planning interesting programs for the March and May meetings that both lawyers and mental health professionals will find informative and challenging.

The next meeting will highlight science and practice-oriented approaches to witness credibility as well as application of research to jury selection and behavior. We’ll look beyond conventional wisdom to how research can improve our understanding of these key topics. Lawyers and mental health professionals will gain valuable tips on preparing and dealing with witnesses as well as understanding jury issues. Mental health professionals will also learn how to improve their own presentations in court.

Dr. Rob Cramer and Prof. Fred Moss will present our program. Dr. Cramer is an assistant professor of psychology at Sam Houston State Univ. and consults with lawyers in trial-related issues. He also conducts research on witness characteristics and juror traits and attitudes as well as on courtroom perceptions in hate crimes and sexual minority issues. Dr. Cramer, a graduate of the Univ of Alabama psychology program, developed his research interests under Dr. Stan Brodsky.

Prof. Fred Moss, a master in courtroom procedures and techniques, is a former federal prosecutor and currently professor emeritus in SMU’s Dedman School of Law. He’ll offer a practicing lawyer’s perspective on Dr. Cramer’s research and comments. Among the classes Prof. Moss has taught are evidence, criminal law, and trial advocacy. In addition, he is a leading educator with the prestigious National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), an organization that teaches lawyers advanced trial and deposition skills.

For mental health professionals who want continuing education credit (CEUs) for the meeting (1.5 hrs.), keep this email for the description of the January 11 meeting topic. This email and the certificate you will receive at the end of the meeting (8:30 pm) should suffice for proof of your attendance. We will review the CE procedures again at the beginning of the meeting.
