POSTSCRIPT: REVIEW OF THE EVENT: January 28 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight: MDHA Annual Homeless Count & Census: Volunteers needed

January 28, 2010 6:00 pmtoJanuary 29, 2010 12:00 am

POSTSCRIPT:  This well-organized and meaningful Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance event took place on a rainy cold evening.  With good training and professional and personable police officers paving the way for speaking with any homeless persons who were interested in contributing to the survey, this experience is highly recommended.  Please consider it for yourselves next year.  Welcoming and educating this rookie were veterans Joel Feiner MD (psychiatrist advocate and community mental health guru/ leader),  Janie Metzinger (MHA); Mike Katz (NTBHA Consumer/Family Council);Valencia Hooper, John Dornheim, and Sherry Cusumano (NAMI Dallas and Collin County); Sr Cpl Herb Cotner of DPD.   Officers Isaac and Celeste of Northeast and LPC David Mora (presently a City of Dallas caseworker) were wonderfully easy and respectful and humane as we visited with those homeless persons who felt comfortable speaking with us.  My sense:  we all realized we are much more alike than different and but for the grace of…Fortunately riding through my own neighborhood, I learned the haunts and strategies and extreme distress of the unsheltered who were NOT in the Bridge and what they believed would help.    NCmd Continue reading POSTSCRIPT: REVIEW OF THE EVENT: January 28 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight: MDHA Annual Homeless Count & Census: Volunteers needed

Dallas Area Women Psychiatrists contribute $2,000 to support NTSPP Mental Health And Addiction Resources website

The NTSPP public service website MHAAR www.mhaar.org seeks to list all legitimate Mental Health and Addiction Resources in our 12-county area.

NTSPP is delighted and honored to receive a donation of $2,000 to support this pilot project from our sister organization in this community, Dallas Area Women Psychiatrists (DAWP).    DAWP Co-Presidents Jane Miles MD and Manju Goyal MD and Treasurer Tamella Trulson MD recently sent this outstanding contribution for MHAAR after a vote by the DAWP membership.  Many thanks from NTSPP!

NB:  DAWP events are posted monthly on www.ntspp.org in the post section as well as in the DAWP box heading above.

Psychiatrists sponsor residents/fellows at NTSPP dinner programs while honoring colleagues

Thanks to psychiatrists APA Distinguished Life Fellow Larry Tripp MD, Distinguished Fellow Madeline Harford MD and General Member Gretchen Megowen MD for sponsoring residents through their contributions to NTSPP recently in addition to being dues-paid chapter members of NTSPP in good standing.    NTSPP chapter dues also support the public service website www.mhaar.org

NTSPP and the Dallas Psychoanalytic Center will each sponsor 4 dinners for UTSWMC psychiatry members in training at the next dinner program on Thursday, March 26 (information in separate post).

Sponsorship of residents/fellows at NTSPP dinners is made possible through your contribution to the NTSPP Memorial & Honor Fund.  To honor or remember an area psychiatrist while sponsoring a dinner for a UTSWMC psychiatry resident or fellow, please consider the NTSPP Memorial and Honor Fund  (see the box above for more details).

New MHAAR form

We have posted at http://ntspp.org/form/ the new set of five forms that break up the content of the one large form so the files load faster and they can be filled out in stages.  The files make it easier to process the data as they are mostly sets of checkboxes to select features of each facility.

The Forms:

MHAAR1Main.pdf  is the main content form where you include your contact information.  This form is the most important form.
MHAAR2Type.pdf will ask you about the Type of your facility.
MHAAR3other.pdf will ask you about the Age and Gender of Person’s seen, the Special Populations seen, the Paid Staff and Degrees, the Location of the Paid Staff and background checks and the Volunteers with their background checks.
MHAAR4services.pdf will ask you about the Services.
MHAAR5diagnosis.pdf will ask you about the Diagnosis.

Also included are instructions with a photograph of how to save the PDF files.
