<p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Times New Roman;">The <strong>Tuesday night October 7 Candlelight Interfaith Service of NAMI</strong> (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) will be held at <strong>7 pm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Oaklawn at Blackburn, just north of Lemmon Avenue.</strong>  The service features prayers and peoples from different faith traditions in an atmosphere of compassion and hope.  Renowned psychiatrist, substance abuse expert, and patient advocate <strong>Ed Nace MD</strong> is the key speaker and a reception follows  in Trinity Hall at 8 pm.  Past speakers have included psychiatrists <strong>Tim Wolff MD</strong> and <strong>Joel Feiner MD.</strong> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Times New Roman;"><strong>Dr. Nace</strong> is in private practice, serves as medical director of Turtle Creek Manor ( a substance abuse rehabilitation program), chairs a Project Transform committee working to use faith-based initiatives to assist the public mental health system, is Past President and Current Vice President of the North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, testifies as a forensic expert witness,  and teaches seminary students at SMU. <br />

<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Fred Frese, Ph.D.</strong></span></p>
<p>Fred is a psychologist who has specialized in the area of schizophrenia for more that 30 years. He was diagnosed with the condition when he was 26, and has worked tirelessly as a practitioner and a legendary advocate for consumers and their families.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Penny Frese, Ph.D</strong>.</span></p>
<p>Penny is active in the mental health movement, presenting throughout the United States and Canada. She, her husband, Fred, and their family have been featured on national television. Penny is the producer of an award-winning video on children&#8217;s depression, called <strong>Claire&#8217;s Story.</strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Robert Gonzales, M.D.</strong></span></p>
<p>Dr. Gonzales is a professor of psychiatry and researcher with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is called the &#8216;resident expert&#8217; on Bipolar Disorder.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>David Morris, Ph.D.</strong></span></p>
<p>Dr. Morris the newly appointed Professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, working as a co-investigator/site project director for a large multi-center RO1 studying the effect of augmenting medication with psychotherapy for the treatment of unipolar depression in patients not achieving a satisfactory response to antidepressant monotherapy.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Joe Powell, LCDC, CAS</strong></span></p>
<p>Joe is the Executive Director of the APAA (Association of Persons Afflicted by Addiction). Joe and his two older brothers made a living for the family by tap dancing in New York City. He also learned to medicate with alcohol and drugs. He has more than 20 years of long-term recovery and treating individuals suffering from addictions with co-occurring mental illness and substance use problems in Dallas.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Aaron B. Jacobs, M.Ed, NCC, LPC</strong></span></p>
<p>Aaron is a college professor, lecturer, owner and director of Preston Hollow Psychotherapy Group, and a Psychiatric Treatment Manager for several Green Oaks Hospital Programs. He has been featured several times on &#8220;Dr Phil&#8221; as the &#8220;Biofeedback Therapist&#8221; treating ADD/ADHD, depression, addiction and stress.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0080ff;"><strong>Senior Corporal Herbert Cotner</strong></span></p>
<p>Herb is the lead instructor and Mental Illness liaison for the Dallas Police Department. He has created and coordinates the mental health CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) for DPD. He is also a family member of someone with a mental illness, and true advocate for those with mental illness.</p>
