<p>The goal is to help clinicians listen in ways that foster changes in their patients’ self-awareness.</p>
<p>Educational goals:<br />
1. Participants will learn new ways to listen to and understand their patients’ experience.<br />
2. Participants will understand the usefulness of Buddhism and Bakhtin’s literary theory in understanding their patients’ experience..<br />
3. Participants will better appreciate the role of certainty in mental life and see the benefits of questioning those certainties.</p>

<p><strong>Dr. Wolff</strong> obtained his undergraduate degree in Biology at Brown University in 1979. He went on to obtain his medical degree at U.T. Southwestern in 1983. Dr. Wolff did his internship and residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, which included work at the Houston VA Hospital, completing it in 1987. Dr. Wolff joined the U.T. Southwestern Faculty in 1987, initially working at the Dallas VA.  He is a professor of psychiatry.  Currently, Dr. Wolff serves as the assistant medical director at the Parkland Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic.  In addition, he is a staff psychiatrist at U.T. Southwestern Medical Center Student Health Services and at the Department of Psychiatry private practice clinic.  Dr. Wolff is a lecturer, advisor, and supervisor of psychiatry residents. He is one of the associate residency training directors for the psychiatry department. Dr. Wolff’s research participation has been in the areas of novel antipsychotics, suicide, and electroconvulsive therapy. Dr. Wolff has been honored by receiving the following awards: American Psychiatric Association Distinguished Fellow and Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. In addition, he is a member of the North Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians (past president) and the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians (Vice chair of the Academic Psychiatry Committee). Dr. Wolff is a past president of the U.T.
