New publication from John Sadler MD: The Virtuous Psychiatrist: Character Ethics in Psychiatric Practice

The Virtuous Psychiatrist:  Character Ethics in Psychiatric Practice” is the first treatment of psychiatric ethics using virtue theory.  Its
unique use of “caseplays” to illustrate concepts and practices makes it particularly suited to psychiatric/mental health training settings.  The
virtues approach to psychiatric ethics emphasizes the cultivation of moral habits of mind and action, intended to be complementary to the
“quandary” approaches more typical of medical ethics.  For links:  A free downloadable introductory chapter is available from the UK Oxford University Press site:

A brief summary of our approach is described in this recent paper in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry: Radden, J.H., and Sadler, J.Z. 2008. Character virtues in psychiatric practice. Harvard Review of Psychiatry 16(6): 373-380.
